* NEW SONGS ADDED : "Dry" [INSTRUMENTAL] and "Chocolat" [INSTRUMENTAL]

I've been making sequenced music since 1997 so I'm not exactly sure when these two pieces of music were composed, but I'd say probably about 2001 / 2002. In other words, this is music from a long time ago. Everything you hear is coming from one keyboard, there's no live instruments, unlike what I do these days. The disadvantage with this is that sometimes it sounds like computer game music, and it doesnt sound very real. But one very big advantage, at least for me, is that because I wasn't focussing on physically doing much more than programming and playing keyboard parts (which I sometimes carefully editted), I could concentrate purely on the composition itself. As I was going through my old stuff, I realised that the attention I paid resulted in some pretty funky stuff.

* NEW SONG ADDED : "Deep"

I was going through old recordings to see if I could re record some stuff, and I found this. I only meant to have a quick listen and I wasn't going to spend much time on it, but as usual I got carried away and 5 hours later I finished it. It started raining and thundering, which was inspiring. Originally it was just drums, bass and keyboard chords, but I've added what I think is a pretty good guitar solo and an organ part. At the end of recording the guitar solo I couldn't help laughing at how pornographic the whole thing sounds. As for the title, you figure it out.

* NEW SONG ADDED : "I Just Can't Get To You"

Someone once told me that it's always a good idea to leave the listener wanting more, and not to overdo things, so I've kept this one brief and simple (just 2 short verses), and hopefully you'll find the short chorus catchy. I find this one quite haunting and surreal both in lyrics and the music. When I wrote it, it started off as a simple sort of love song, but now I think it sounds like it could also be about God. Although I'm always self conscious about my singing, I quite like what I've done here, and at least I've sung clearly and you can hear what I'm singing. I recorded this on my 4 track tape recorder about 8 months ago, and I was surprised at how easy it was to re learn all the parts.

* NEW SONG ADDED : "Stand Still"

I don't know what the Drezone (www.thedrezone.com) was doing before I turned up at his place one monday evening in 2004 with my guitar and a couple of ideas, but by the time we finished, things got funky. I started off with a chord sequence on guitar, showed him the bassline, then he added the sequenced drums and the keyboard part. As we sat in wonder at our creation, I said something about not being able to stand still, then I started singing "Stand still while you listen to this, I dare ya, I dare ya". He joined in, and before we knew it we were standing (not still) at a mic and recording the vocals. It's not meant to be serious, it's just funk. I'm singing the higher parts, and "Come on". Every time I hear my vocals I'm slightly embarassed, but hopefully my guitar playing makes up for that. This was played at a party for Prince freaks like the Drezone and myself, and it was good to see people dancing to it, rather than you know, standing still, as it were. Anyway I better stop before I exhaust all possible puns, and so I give you the bastard child of our session.

* NEW SONG ADDED : "Intense" [INSTRUMENTAL]

I wanted to get away from my trademark porn sound, so I came up with something that sounds rougher than what I usually do, which is hard with the limited sounds that I have. It comes in 2 sections that sound like they could belong in totally different pieces of music (but which I think work well together), and it's got 2 guitar solos and a bass solo. In the second guitar solo, right at the end, there's a couple of notes that you might think are bum notes, but they're not. This one sounds weird, and that's what I was going for. I've structured it like a song, so that I can add lyrics at some point, although I really can't imagine what I'd sing over this. If you listen to my solos, you'll hear that my B and E strings are slightly out of tune. And if you can't notice it, then your hearing is as bad as my tuning, which suits me fine.

* NEW SONG ADDED : "Chunky" [INSTRUMENTAL]

I've literally finished this one just now. It took me about 6 1/2 hours. I was listening to Liston Smith (the bass player) and some other stuff and all of a sudden I was feeling funky, and this is the result. I'm quite pleased with my guitar solo; I was thinking of Prince as I was playing. Overall I think it sounds fairly complete as an instrumental piece, although maybe I could have added something during the jazzy part with the ride cymbal. A lot of rehearsing went into that guitar solo and I think I did well. I know it can be hard to define music sometimes, but I like to think of this one as smooth funk / acid jazz. Oh I dunno, you tell me.

* NEW SONG ADDED : "Tight" [INSTRUMENTAL]

I wrote and recorded it in one day, and it's somewhat rushed, but hopefully it sounds "Tight". Get it? Tight? Oh, please yourselves. Anyway it starts off with a 1 chord section, but I wanted to avoid doing the 1 chord jam thing so I added an 8 bar section with a different bunch of chords. I spent ages working on the guitar solo but I'm not that happy with it and if I played it again today I'd probably do a better job. The whole thing sounds like porn music, as does a lot of what I do. Don't ask why, it just always seems to end up that way. Maybe it's in my bones. Get it, bone? Oh just get the fuck out of here.
